Tecnologia Educacional and the micro:bit Foundation, a non-profit organization based in England, are now partners and together for the same purpose: to arouse students’ interest in technology, innovation and entrepreneurship, besides to form a new generation of innovators

What is the micro:bit?

A hardware based on a small programmable board that inspires the digital creativity, teaches the fundamentals of programming and allows endless ideas.

How it works

  • More than 1 million students, teachers and parents already use micro:bit in the world.
  • All children are born inventors and micro:bit assists in learning programming and makes them real makers!

The use history of micro:bit in England

The micro:bit began to be distributed free of charge in 2016 to every seventh grade student in schools in England and Wales, and to students in Northern Ireland and Scotland of equivalent classes (from 11 years old, beginning of middle school), with educational programs developed by the BBC and proven results. Here are some research results from students and teachers:

said that computer science got more interesting.


agree that coding is not as difficult as they thought.


said they would definitely pursue a career in professions related to computer science.


increase in the number of girls who said they would definitely choose computing as a career after using micro:bit.

About the project in Brazil

With support from the Secretary for Information Technology Policy (Sepin) of the Ministry of Science, Technology, Innovation and Communications (MCTIC), this is the first time that a country is collaborating with the Foundation on the development of BBC micro:bit* technology in one major international cooperation project.
